On Friday evening, October 10, 2008, we will present an evening full of Monterey history.
Our fun-filled evening will begin with a delicious dinner prepared by The Garden Inn - highlighted by Chef Mike of Charter Cable's "350 Degrees with Mike Kopec at The Garden Inn" on the grill - followed by a play chock full of the history of Monterey. Dr. Opless and Mrs. Kay Walker will play the part of Major Robert Moscrip, one of Monterey's founding fathers, and his wife, Emma. General John T. Wilder and wife, Dora Lee, will be portrayed by Mr. and Mrs. John and Judy Wassaum of Rockwood. Tickets for this fund-raising dinner and theater will be $35 per person, $60 per couple, or $150 for a table of six!!! Reservations are required and seating is limited. Friday evening's festivities will be the kick-off event of a huge celebration of Monterey's annual "Standing Stone Day" on the next day, Saturday, October 11th, sponsored by the Monterey Historical Society comprising local civic groups and the Monterey Commerce Association. The town will be welcoming an excursion train from the Tennessee Central Railway Museum in Nashville. Featured events in the downtown area, which will be closed to traffic and open to your walking and shopping pleasure, include the Monterey Depot Society's Second Annual Car Show, Monterey Senior Citizens' First Annual Quilt Show at the Monterey United Methodist Church, crafters from the Cumberland Artisans for Creative Expression (CACE) will have booths with items from woodworking to painting and photography and music. Entertainment for the kids, lots of good food, three stages with entertainment and music going on through out the day, a large flea market at the park ... and lots more!!!
Confederate Soldiers will be there with a surprise for the excursion train coming from Nashville. Tickets are on sale for a train ride from Monterey out to the Sand Plant on the Hanging Limb Road and back. Don't forget, there will be the First Annual Monterey Grand Prix (riding lawnmower races). Watch for more information about Monterey's special day. Details will be in all the local newspapers and TV stations.

Monterey Train Ride Tickets NOW On Sale
Tickets are now on sale at several Monterey locations that will allow local resident to ride the train. But, you have to hurry because there’s only around 10 seats left and they are selling fast. The short train ride will be on Standing Stone Day, Saturday, Oct. 11. Once the Tennessee Central Railway Museum excursion train reaches Monterey, with its over 500 passengers, around 1 p.m. that day, those passengers will deboard. Several cars will then take on the approximated 230 passengers who have bought the reserved seating at the proposed Monterey Depot site and take them on a round trip out to the sand plant at the Putnam-Overton County line and back. The tickets are $10 each and are on sale now at BenAnna’s, Cup and Saucer Restaurant, Lay-Simpson Furniture and Monterey Hardware. Hurry up! Don’t miss your train.
